Growth is rarely a straight path. Often, when we are on the verge of change, something deep inside us pushes back. That pushback—the hesitation, the fear, the voice that whispers, “You’re not ready” or “What if you fail?”—is what I call the voice of resistance.

For a long time, I used to see resistance as an enemy. I thought it meant I wasn’t strong enough, that maybe my dreams weren’t meant for me. But over time, I’ve learned to see resistance with compassion. Instead of trying to silence it, I’ve started listening to what it really wants me to know.

Why We Resist Growth

Resistance isn’t here to destroy us. In fact, it often shows up as a form of protection. It’s the mind’s way of saying:

  • “This is new and unfamiliar—are you sure it’s safe?”

  • “We’ve been hurt before. Let’s not make the same mistake again.”

  • “If you succeed, things will change. Can we handle that change?”

It’s important to understand that resistance is rooted in fear, but fear isn’t always bad. Fear can highlight where we’re stepping into the unknown. It can point us toward the exact areas where our deepest growth lies.

My Personal Experience with Resistance

When I quit my 9–5 job to step fully into my coaching journey, I thought freedom would feel exciting right away. Instead, resistance met me at every turn.

I doubted myself constantly: “Who am I to guide others?” I struggled to build credibility, and it took me much longer than I expected to attract consistent clients. Some days I wondered if I had made the biggest mistake of my life.

But instead of pushing those feelings away, I started asking my resistance questions. Why are you here? What are you trying to protect me from? I realized that my fear wasn’t about failure—it was about visibility. Deep down, I was terrified of being seen, of showing up authentically, of risking rejection.

That awareness changed everything. Once I listened with compassion, I could reassure myself: Yes, it’s scary to put yourself out there, but your voice matters. Your story matters. And someone out there needs exactly what you have to share.

How to Listen to the Voice of Resistance

Instead of fighting resistance, try these steps:

  1. Pause and Acknowledge It
    When resistance shows up, don’t dismiss it. Name it: “I feel resistance right now.”

  2. Ask What It Wants
    Treat it like a wise messenger. What fear or memory is it pointing to? What is it trying to protect?

  3. Respond with Compassion
    Resistance doesn’t need force; it needs reassurance. Speak to yourself with the same kindness you’d give a close friend.

  4. Take Small, Gentle Steps Forward
    You don’t have to leap over resistance in one go. Even the smallest action in the direction of growth builds trust within yourself.

When I moved back to Uruguay earlier this year, I thought I was ready. I had visions of reconnection, of creative flow, of grounding myself in familiar soil. But reality unfolded differently. The rhythm was off. The opportunities didn’t align. The emotional landscape felt foreign, even though the streets were known.

I kept telling myself to go with the flow. To surrender. To trust the timing. But my body wasn’t convinced.

I felt restless. My sleep was shallow. My breath stayed high in my chest. I tried to meditate, to move, to journal—but the unease lingered. It wasn’t resistance to change—it was something deeper. A sense that I was floating without anchor. That surrender, in this moment, felt unsafe.

One morning, I sat in stillness and asked my body what it needed. Not what I thought it should want. Just… what it truly craved. The answer was clear: structure. Ritual. A sense of agency.

So I began creating small anchors—morning yoga, bilingual writing prompts, walks by the water. I stopped forcing myself to “flow” and started listening to what felt nourishing. Slowly, the restlessness softened. Not because everything was resolved, but because I stopped abandoning myself in the name of surrender.

It’s been a long time since I’ve written on this blogging site, but today something inside me said: start again. Writing has always been the way I express myself best, and I feel called to share my reflections, experiences, and the lessons I’ve learned along the way.

Life, as we all know, doesn’t always unfold the way we hope or expect. There have been times when everything in my world seemed upside down, when I felt more like I was existing than truly living. Those are the hardest moments—the waiting, the uncertainty, the feeling of being stuck. But what I’ve come to understand is that faith, prayer, and patience truly carry us through.

Over the years, I’ve taken drastic chances and made bold decisions in both my personal life and career. At times, faith was the only thing I had to hold on to. Through struggles, losses, and painful ordeals, I learned something powerful: if I stay positive most of the time, set clear intentions, and trust in the greater plan, things do work out. Sometimes not in the way I imagined or hoped, but always in a way that guides me forward—and somehow, I always land on my feet.

The universe has a way of teaching us the lessons we need, even when they come disguised as hardship. And though it isn’t easy to remain happy or positive all the time—especially when life feels heavy—I’ve found that leaning into faith and prayer makes the burden lighter.

I’ve also learned to protect my peace. Pain comes not only from life’s circumstances but sometimes from people—especially when those people are family. Disrespect, judgment, and mistreatment from those closest to us can cut the deepest. But the lesson is clear: no matter who it is, we must distance ourselves from anyone who tries to break us or diminish our spirit.

Today, I write because I needed to release what I’ve been carrying. Sharing my truth lightens the weight on my heart, and perhaps it will resonate with someone else who needs to hear it. If you’re going through a season of waiting, of uncertainty, or of pain, my message to you is simple: pray, trust, and wait. The universe is always working on your behalf, even when you can’t yet see the outcome.
